This article is aimed at educating User Administrators on the fundamentals of being a good User Admin within Ecosuite. The article reviews how to manage new User Types, Users and Permissions to provide an optimal user experience for all your users.
If you are configured as a User Admin - you will have access to the User Management View. Click the Tile Drop Down > “Manage Users”
Within the Manage Users Portal you will find 3 key views:
Audit - view all historical changes associated with Users OR User Types
Users - this is where an Admin can:
Create a new user
Setup a user profile with an appropriate name, email, time zone and access window (i.e. start and end dates during which the profile will be active) as applicable.
Assign the new user a “User Type.” The user type will set the default Module/View access along with associated default permissions.
Enable/disable data downloading
Set access to specific Projects/Portfolios
View/Manage/Update the Profile, Permissions and Security of existing users
Users Types
Create a new User Type
User Types are utilized within Ecosuite to define easily reusable sets of access permissions (e.g. they define access to a set of Modules/Views with associated read/write permissions), these User Types can then be conveniently used by Admins when creating new users for your organization. Having well defined User Types is critical to maximize user satisfaction within your organization, providing the correct access for different roles and reducing “information overload”. Ideally users should only receive access to Modules and Views that are required for them to perform their role.
View/Manage existing User Types
Edits to a User Type’s permissions will NOT affect the permissions for existing users of that User Type (i.e. it will only impact newly created Users)
Edits to a User Type’s Module/View access WILL apply to all current and future users of that User Type (i.e. it will impact pre-existing and newly created Users)
The following table provides some suggested User Types for new Organizations:
